Description

Baby Smash is a local multiplayer action/platforming game. In this game, two players must push down all of the items they can touch on the shelves as quickly as possible! PUSH THEM DOWN! Each player plays as an agile baby, capable of crawling, jumping, and using things like pillows, open fires and even a strange toilet to get to out-of-reach places. If either player succeeds in knocking down any of the game's objects to the floor, that player will be rewarded with points, which will contribute to that player's overall score. Both players can also scream to move several objects all at once, or shatter glass objects - at the cost of being stunned for 2 seconds. The player that gets the highest score at the end of the game's three levels wins.

Features

History

Baby Smash! was made over the course of a three-and-a-half day Game Jam, as part of Concordia’s Critical Hit Parallax. The topic of the Game Jam was “Your First Memory”, and the first thing come to the mind of Bug, the project’s chief game designer, was memory he had when he was about 3 years old of him pushing a glass cup off of the table. After discussing each member’s ideas, we decided to base our game around this memory.

We then brainstormed what the game would resemble and play like. We considered that whether it should be a single-player game or a multiplayer game (we went with the latter, whether it needed to be a 3D game or a 2D game (2D was more convenient), which engine to use (Unity!), and so on.

It took us every hour of the time we had to make this 3-level game, and implement all of the player’s abilities, such as moving left to right, jumping and screaming. We’re very pleased that we managed to implement different things for people to play with in all three levels, like a cat that can be awakened by screaming, and a magical pony which flies all about it’s level, influencing other objects. However, because of this, we didn’t have time to thoroughly playtest it; as a result, there are several bugs within it that did not get addressed.
